The CyberSure consortium
The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), established in 1983, is the largest Greek State R&D Centre. FORTH hosts six major Research Institutes. The Institute of Computer Science (ICS) has established an internationally acknowledged excellence in conducting basic and applied research, developing applications and products, and providing services. FORTH, besides its pioneering contributions in the sector of Information and Telecommunications Technologies in Greece, cooperates, in the context of European and international collaborative R&D programmes, with universities, research centres and other organisations at national and international level, thus contributing to the exchange of scientific ideas and the creation and transfer of new technologies. The research directions at ICS take into consideration the state of the art, international trends, research and technological challenges worldwide, as well as the national needs of the public and private sectors. FORTH represents Greece in the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM), an organisation dedicated to the advancement of European research and development in the areas of information technology and applied mathematics.
The City University (CITY) was founded in 1894 and is based in the City of London, hosting more than 17,000 students and more than 2,000 staff from more than 150 countries. CITY is in the top 5% of world universities (TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2012). More than 80% of the research activity of CITY in the fields of Computer Science and Informatics was assessed as being of internationally excellent or world leading level by the last national research assessment (REF 2014) in the UK. CITY participates in CyberSure through the Research Centre of Adaptive Computing Systems (CeNACS) that conducts research on adaptive cyber systems.
The Italian National Research Council (CNR) is the main public research organisation of Italy. The CNR consists of about 100 different research institutes that span from human sciences to engineering sciences. The Institute of Telematics and Informatics Institute (IIT-CNR) in Pisa runs research and development activities in the Future Internet area. The security group of the IIT is an internationally leading research that has a significant expertise on cyber security and crime, formal models for security and trust, secure software engineering, data sharing agreements, parental control technologies, language-based security, usage control monitoring and enforcement, and study of security metrics and risk.
Cablenet founded in 2003, offers telecommunication and entertainment services to the corporate and retail market. There are 230 employees in 3 cities. Developed the only wholly-owned independent network in Cyprus with 22.5Gbps International Capacity over redundant cable systems and currently 55,000+ retail subscribers. Cablenet is a member of all major European Internet Exchanges: LINX, DE-CIX and AMS-IX. It directly peers with over 500 providers from over 52 countries worldwide. Cablenet is one of the newest companies to enter the market, it has succeeded to gain significant market share in a very short time period. Cablenet operates a privately owned Hybrid Fiber Coaxial network, using the latest DOCyberSure S 3.0 cable technology offering telephony and digital video service delivering crystal-clear images and mind-blowing high-definition channels. The backbone optical fiber network within Cyprus is fully redundant and interlinks the four (4) major cities in Cyprus both at IP level as well as SDH. Multi-fiber metro rings are in operation in major civic centers in Cyprus, providing redundancy. Cablenet operates multiple major Point of Presence in Cyprus, each interconnected with a state-of-the-art multi-10G self-healing ring, taking resilience and performance to a whole new level for Cypriot standards. Cablenet has presence with resilient multi-homed connectivity in the two major landing stations in Cyprus, as well as, key co-location facilities.
Hellas Direct is a 4-year old next-generation insurance start-up, founded by two former Goldman Sachs guys who moved to Greece to disrupt the Greek insurance market. The company is backed by some of the world's best investors including Dan Loeb's Third Point, Jon Moulton and the Leventis family. It focuses on car insurance and sells directly to the consumer (similar to GEICO or Direct Line). It is a data-driven company that leverages cutting-edge technology to disrupt the insurance business model in the region. It is currently the only company in the region that offers online, direct insurance covers by the day. It is rapidly expanding into other personal finance products and entering the broader fintech space. Hellas Direct currently employees 40 people across all its operations and has software development and analytics teams that operate out of London, Athens and Cyprus. The company has more than 35,000 customers at the moment with a very rapid year-on-year growth.
